The SBU has established two members of the criminal group during the investigative activity. They were citizens of Ukraine born in 1964 and 1972. The older of the perpetrators worked as a local police officer in the district police department, which was planned to be exploded. His associate was dismissed from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and maintained close relationships with his former colleague. They planned to activate the explosive device when the police department premises will be the most crowded.
"The Security Service of Ukraine asks Kharkiv residents to remain calm despite the fact that the saboteurs have been active in Kharkiv and Kharkiv region lately - our Kharkiv colleagues are working their hearts out to preserve the security and order in Kharkiv," the Security Service of Ukraine Chairmen Adviser Markiian Lubkivskyi said.
A so-called sticky bomb, which was planned to be used to commit a terrorist attack, was found during one of the attackers' apartment search.
The Security Service of Ukraine Investigative Department in Kharkiv region opened criminal proceedings over this crime under part 1 of the Article 14 and, part 2 of the Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
