 Association Agreement with EU Enhanced Energy Security of Ukraine - Poroshenko

New opportunities opened up for Ukraine to ensure its energy security after signing of the Association Agreement with the EU.

President Poroshenko stated at a meeting with Vice-President of the European Commission on energy Maroš Šefčovič, Censor.NET informs citing Ukrinform.

"Ukraine acquired new opportunities regarding energy security after signing the Association Agreement with the EU. The integration of the Ukrainian energy market with the European one is an important element of the national state strategy," the head of state said.

He also thanked the EU for extending the trade preferences regime period for Ukraine and expressed hope for assistance during the donor conference to be held next year January.

"The conference will be very symbolic step, especially considering that we had parliamentary elections," Poroshenko stated.

At the same time he called very symbolic the fact that Ukraine became the first country Šefčovič visited after his appointment. "We are counting on you and are open to cooperation. I hope that our cooperation will be very strong," Poroshenko stressed.

Whereas, Šefčovič assured that he would continue the work of his predecessor, Günther Oettinger. "I should admit that this is my first visit to Ukraine. I want it to be very symbolic to show very plainly that I will continue the work begun by my predecessor Oettinger, because I participated in the last round of tripartite talks," vice -President of the European Commission said.

He also stated that one of his tasks is to build the energy community: "It is incredibly extensive task, and I once again want to assure you that neither the EU nor I consider that the European energy community ends at the border. We are fully aware of the fact that we need to work fruitfully on the integration of the energy system of the country for the effective operation of the European energy union."

At the same time the Vice-President of the European Commission noted that not only Ukrainian citizens, but also the EU and international financial institutions are looking forward for the new Cabinet's formation.
