Military Prosecution Conducts Searches in Homes and Offices of Defense Ministry Officials


The Investigation Department of the Chief Military Prosecutor's Office is conducting searches of the officials of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.

This is reported by Censor.NET citing the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office.

"The Investigation Division of the Chief Military Prosecutor's Office is conducting a pre-trial investigation within the criminal proceedings initiated regarding the abuse of power and office by Ukrainian Defense Ministry officials comprising the competitive bidding committee (p. 2, Art. 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the message reads.

"In conducting logistics for the rear supply of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in 2014 the said individuals used their positions against the interests of the service and accepted offers from participants of fuel and lubricants procurement at exorbitant prices, thus causing damage to the state budget of Ukraine in the amount of over 3,000,000 hryvnia. In order to identify and record the circumstances of the crime the investigation department and OCD officers are conducting searches at the places of work and residence of these persons, in particular one of the Defense Minister's deputies. The sanction of the Article provides for a prison sentence of up to six years, with prohibition to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities," the PGO explained.
