"Mariupol is the area where the shelling is the strongest. This could be a preparation for a military operation," he said, responding to questions about the situation in Ukraine during his speech to the deputies of the European Parliament, member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.
According to the Secretary General of the OSCE, the situation in east of Ukraine in terms of information remains difficult as well. "What we have seen in eastern Ukraine is a real information war," Zannier said, adding that shut down of TV channels and obstruction of journalists continues in the region.
"The situation is very polarized and promotes new conflicts," he stressed.
In addition, the OSCE Secretary General noted that "the Minsk process" has lost its political speed, and "for me, the political process is the key."
Zannier also said that the OSCE was forced to close its office in Crimea, at the request of the Ukrainian side.
