Shoigu Announced Formation of "Full Fledged Group of Troops in Crimea" Due to “Difficult Situation”

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu notes that the military and political situation in the south-west direction remains difficult. In his opinion, the escalation of the conflict is caused not by Russia's aggression against Ukraine, but by Ukraine, as well as NATO, which, in his opinion, stokes up the anti-Russian sentiments.

He noted that in this regard the board of the Defense Ministry is discussing the progress of the group of troops formation in the territory of the "Crimean Federal District", Censor.NET reports citing RIA Novosti.

"Analysis of the possible development necessitates maintaining the Southern Military District in readiness to ensure the military security of the country and its allies in the south-western strategic direction. Under these conditions, one of the priorities is to develop a complete and self-sufficient multi-service force in the Crimean peninsula," the Russian minister said.

According to him, the military and political situation in southwest Russia, in the south-western strategic direction "remains difficult."

"This is largely due to the situation in Ukraine, the stoking up of anti-Russian sentiment on the part of NATO, and the increase in the foreign military presence in the immediate vicinity of our borders," Shoigu said.
