"Analysis of the possible development necessitates maintaining the Southern Military District in readiness to ensure the military security of the country and its allies in the south-western strategic direction. Under these conditions, one of the priorities is to develop a complete and self-sufficient multi-service force in the Crimean peninsula," the Russian minister said.
According to him, the military and political situation in southwest Russia, in the south-western strategic direction "remains difficult."
"This is largely due to the situation in Ukraine, the stoking up of anti-Russian sentiment on the part of NATO, and the increase in the foreign military presence in the immediate vicinity of our borders," Shoigu said.
