Activists Attempt to Demolish Dzerzhinsky Monument in Zaporizhia

Attempts of Zaporizhia residents to knock down the six-meter monument to Dzerzhinsky at the Liberty Square have not been successful so far.

According to Censor.NET citing Interfax-Ukraine, dozens of people have been trying to knock down the sculpture with the help of ropes for an hour, however, the "Granite Felix" has not even staggered. Activists are being opposed by the police officers, which arrived at the scene after about an hour after the start of the action. In particular, they ask those present to go home. Scuffles periodically break out between the police and the protesters.

People do not go away from the square. They believe that this monument destabilize the situation in the city. The local residents, who were present at the assembly of the monument in 1977 say there is a an iron rod inside the sculpture on which the statue of Dzerzhinsky was set in parts, and the monument is monolithical.
