EU Must Either Impose New Sanctions Against Russia or "Freeze" Relationships With it - Vice-President of the European Parliament

The EU should introduce another package of sanctions against Russia because it recognizes the so-called separatists’ elections in the Donbas and continues to destabilize the situation in Ukraine.

Vice-President of the European Parliament Ryszard Czarnecki expressed his opinion Tuesday, Censor.NET reports citing Evropeiska Pravda.

"I believe the EU must introduce new sanctions but I'm not sure it will be done," the MP representing Poland in the European Parliament said.

"There are a lot of people in the EU right now who want 'sacred peace'," he added.

Czarnecki also said that the European Union, in any case, must not leave the situation unanswered.

"It is obvious that Russia exacerbates tension and this is the moment when we need to show it a yellow card. Either it will be sanctions or other solutions but Russia must clearly percieve that its political involvement in the so-called elections in the Donbas is a mistake," the deputy said.

He noted that besides sanctions, the European Union for example, could "freeze" the political relations with Russia.

It was reported earlier that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin urges the West to tighten sanctions against Russia.
