"We owe $54B inherited from today's 'fighters for the truth'," - Ukraine's president on cooperaton with IMF

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko says the current state of the economy would already allow Ukraine to do without borrowing if it wasn't for old debts.

"The current state of the economy would already allow Ukraine to do without borrowing if it was not for the peak payments on old loans," he wrote on social media, Censor.NET reports.

"$54 billion. This is the total debt inherited from today's "fighters for the truth in 2007-2013, when they had power," the president said.

"The commitment to the International Monetary Fund to raise gas prices and equalize the cost of imported natural gas and Ukrainian gas was taken by the government in 2008. The relevant Memorandum with the International Monetary Fund was signed on Oct. 31. It is not strange that the opposition does not celebrate this "solemn" date. The International Monetary Fund was then headed by Dominique Strauss-Kahn. And who was the Prime Minister at that time? It sounds like "Cherchez la femme" in French," Poroshenko added.

"However, such obligations are absolutely non-personal. They are of an international legal nature. The state has undertaken a commitment - we must observe it," the Head of State said.
