SBU operatives and members of the Kyiv prosecutor’s office exposed an embezzlement scheme that allowed the fraudsters embezzling public funds allocated for rehabilitation of the Donbas war fighters wounded in action, Censor.NET reports citing a statement by the press center for the law enforcement agency.
The SBU investigators found that the suspects lied that their health centers were properly staffed and equipped for rehabilitation when they applied for the relevant tender held by the state agency for the Donbas war veterans.
The wounded fighters did not receive the full range of rehabilitation services announced at the tender.
The law enforcers collected evidence of over 6 million hryvnia worth damage caused by the fraudsters in 2016-2017.
It is noted that the director of the health center, who is also a member of a local council, had been formally charged with committing a fraud and forgery punishable by articles 190 and 366 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code respectively.
