"Lots of problems with General Staff, staffing decisions not ruled out," – MP Iryna Lutsenko on fire at ammo dump near Ichnia

Presidential Envoy to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Irina Lutsenko, says explosions at Ukraine’s military depot become systematic which is unacceptable when the country defends itself from the aggression.

"The president is concerned about this issue because we had similar situation in Balaklia, Kalynivka. The military depots were on fire and exploding in the east of the country. It’s, of course, unlikely that it (arms depot in Chernihiv region – Ed.) ignited spontaneously," she said late on Tuesday, Oct. 9, speaking on air of Channel 5, Censor.NET reports.

According to the MP, now the situation regarding this issue is tense. Namely, the president is to hear the reports of the security forces about the causes of the disaster in the Chernihiv region.

The lawmaker also noted that a year ago, following destruction of ammo dumps in the Kharkiv and Vinnytsia regions, an entire set of measures was developed and eventually introduced to all military personnel and at infrastructure facilities where the depots are located.

"There are lots of problems with the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine because this in general falls within their competence. Therefore, I think the president examines this issue very seriously. I do not rule out the staffing decisions to follow because this becomes systematic which is unacceptable when the country defends itself," Lutsenko stressed.

As reported, an explosion rocked the support area of the 6th arms depot near the town of Ichnia, the Chernihiv region, around 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 9 setting it on fire. The corresponding security measures were introduced all across the Chernihiv region.

The State Emergency Service reported at least 10,000 locals being evacuated from the danger zone.
