"Rudkovskyi was detained on Novaya Basmannaya Street in the center of the capital city (Moscow – Ed.) on Friday," the source said.
In February 2017, a spokesperson for the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Svetlana Petrenko said that Rudkovskyi was indicted in absentia on charges of committing an attack on internationally protected institutions punishable by article 360 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
"Rudkovskyi was a member of a group of individuals involved in spoiling the property of the Russian embassy by throwing objects at the facade of the building on June 14, 2014," she said.
According to her, the evidence of the detainee’s wrongdoing was collected in the course of the joint investigation conducted by the Russian FSB Security Service and police.
In May 2016, the Basmanny district court of Moscow arrested the Ukrainian politician in absentia.
A rally was held outside the Russian embassy in Kyiv on the night of June 15, 2014 after the Russian-led forces shot down IL-76 air carrier with 49 troops on board while approaching the Luhansk airport. During the rally, the protesters shattered the windows in the embassy, tore down the Russian flag and overturned the cars of the Russian diplomats parked outside the building. Rudkovskyi also lobbed a stone at the embassy which gave the Russian investigators an excuse to open a criminal case against the official.
