As reported by Censor.NET citing the press service of the National Police Directorate in charge of Kyiv, Kryshchenko said that police officers were responding to the information on unidentified individuals who broke into a private house in attempt to rob it. The perpetrators reportedly took some valuables and tried to escape.
"They started firing shots at the law enforcers trying to detain them and subsequently lobbed a grenade at them. The police officers fired in response but the intruders managed to escape. Moreover, the law enforcement officers found a body of an unidentified man with gunshot wounds as they were inspecting the crime scene and the escape route. The deceased person was likely involved in the robbery of the private house. We will soon find out what weapon he was killed with exactly," he said.
Kyiv police chief noted that the law enforcers launched a special operation to locate and apprehend the perpetrators. The officers of the Pechersk police precinct were placed on high alert, the police special operations forces and crime scene investigators were engaged in the operation, BOLOs were sent to the police teams in all districts of the capital.
The injured police officer was hospitalized. The investigators initiated criminal proceedings into encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer punishable by up to 15 years of imprisonment or life sentence.
