Admiral James G. Stavridis, former commander of the armed forces of NATO and the United States in Europe said in an interview with the Czech news channel ČT24, Censor.NET reports citing radiosvoboda.ua.
"Ukraine is a sovereign state. Russian military units should not be on its territory without the permission of the Ukrainian army. These detachments should be put out, however, we do not see complete withdrawal of Russian troops," James Stavridis stressed.
According to the American military expert, the words of Vladimir Putin that there are no Russian servicemen in Ukraine cannot be trusted. NATO traces the troops' movement: "We know that there are Russian troops in Ukraine, and it is very edgy situation - much more inflammatory than anything NATO does," the American admiral stated.
James Stavridis also noted that Ukraine, "like any democratic state that is ready to implement the ideas of the Alliance, could join NATO."
It means that "the idea that NATO walls off is false," the former commander of NATO armed forces says.
