Withdrawal from CIS: Ukraine no longer participates in meetings of envoys to Commonwealth’s statutory bodies

Ukraine no longer takes part in the meetings of permanent representatives to the statutory bodies of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

"The president of Ukraine decided to close Ukrainian missions to the CIS coordinating bodies, which was accomplished last month. We no longer take part in the meetings of permanent representatives because we technically have no one to do this job," Ukrainian Ambassador to Belarus Ihor Kyzym Wednesday told journalists, Censor.NET reports citing TASS news agency.

According to him, Ukraine's permanent representative to the CIS Executive Committee left. "There is a diplomat in the embassy who is responsible for relations with the Executive Committee," he said.

Kyzym recalled that now Ukraine "interacts with the CIS Executive Committee through the embassy in the same manner it does with any international organization based in the host country."

The ambassador noted that Ukraine "is in the middle of withdrawal from the CIS" but still has access to the information about the activities of the Commonwealth’s Executive Committee.

In May 2018, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a decree implementing the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on the country’s ultimate withdrawal from the CIS statutory bodies.
