"Kharkiv patrol police officers and policemen from all over Ukraine are in mourning today. Kharkiv policeman Dmytro Kirienko was killed in the line of duty as he was about to detain an armed attacker... He was a good person, a good friend, police officer, father. He was survived by a wife and a daughter who was a year and 8 months old," the lawmaker said.
The police press center later clarified that Kirienko was 29 years old.
"The scumbag who opened fire at the Kharkiv City Council last night was shot dead by the police on the spot while the officers had more than enough legal grounds to use lethal force against him. "I offer my condolences to the family of Dmytro Kirienko killed in the line of duty. The government and Ukrainian people shall fulfill their duty to the family of the deceased… ," he said.
