 EU Council Calls on Russia to Withdraw Troops and Provide Control of Ukrainian-Russian Border

The European Union once again claims Russia’s responsibility for the withdrawal of illegal armed groups from the territory of Ukraine.

This is stated in the conclusion of the meeting of the European Council on Foreign Relations, which was held on Monday in Luxembourg, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinfrom.

"The EU Council emphasizes the responsibility of the Russian Federation in this context, and calls for the withdrawal of illegal armed groups, military equipment, militants and mercenaries, as well as providing control on the Ukrainian-Russian border, with the participation of permanent monitoring mission of the OSCE," the document says.

The EC also noted the inviolability of the obligations of the parties to hold early local elections in some parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in accordance with the Ukrainian legislation and international standards.

In addition, the decision of the EU Council called for speedy prosecution of those responsible for the downing of the civilian aircraft MH17. The EC also welcomed the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of the laws on the prosecution and combating corruption.

The foreign ministers of the member countries have also approved an operational plan of unfolding advisory civilian mission on security reform in Ukraine (EUAM Ukraine).
