As reported by Censor.NET citing local media outlet Nash Ridnyi Kupiansk, a soldier of the 53rd separate mechanized brigade, assistant grenadier Vasyl Plotnikov, died of gunshot wounds he received in a clash with Russian mercenaries at the Svitlodarsk salient on July 28.
Plotnikov was born Aug. 21, 1992 in a multi-child family. He did his compulsory military service after graduating from Kyslivka-based school and subsequently found a job in the town of Rubizhne. Early this year, he joined regular troops under the contract.
As reported, four Ukrainian servicemen kept vigil at the observation post between Krymske and Sokilnyky on July 28 when they were attacked by 15-strong subversive group. Squad commander, senior soldier Yurii Dzhenzhera and Vasyl Plotnikov were the first to start repelling the assault and eventually received lethal gunshot wounds.
By the time the backup arrived, two other fighters - Vladyslav Nikolaichuk and Ihor Pravdun - had already sustained moderately severe injuries but continued holding off the enemy. The reinforcements made the terrorists retreat under the cover of artillery. The Ukrainian soldiers shelled retreating saboteurs with mortars.
