"This is a common position of all countries that have given us security guarantees. First of all it is not a frozen conflict," Poroshenko said in the interview to France 24, Censor.NET reports citing the presidential press office.
"This is a real hot war because of Russian aggression in the east of my country. This is a sovereign Ukrainian territory and Russia is sending troops there to kill Ukrainians," the head of state stressed, recalling casualties among the military and civilians in the Donbas.
As for the initiative to deploy a peacekeeping mission under the auspices of the United Nations, Poroshenko said that its main task is to stop hostilities and ensure the withdrawal of troops of the aggressor from the territory of Ukraine.
"Peacekeepers do not have to return Ukrainian sovereignty, we can do this through the political process. They have to bring peace to this land, stop the murders. The presence of peacekeepers under the mandate of the UN Security Council will help us withdraw Russian troops from this territory, withdraw Russian tanks and artillery," the president said.
At the same time, the Head of State noted that the deployment of the mission is blocked by Russia, despite the fact that it is one of the signatories of the Budapest memorandum and acted as a guarantor of Ukraine's security.
"This is not happening. And Russia should explain to the whole world why they are against that. Peacekeepers - international forces, an objective source of information - will come there, defend the local population and create political and security prerequisites for the implementation of the Minsk agreements. We have security guarantees from Russia in the Budapest Memorandum, we have the signature of Russia under the Minsk agreements, we have Russian responsibility. This is very important," he said.
Poroshenko especially emphasized that in the end the Russian Federation began to be recognized as an aggressor not only in words, but also in documents. "Russia is an aggressor. And it was demonstrated in the documents of this NATO Summit that the aggressive actions of Russia led to this situation. And there is a common understanding that this is Russia and this is an aggression," the president stressed.
