Yatsenyuk: Ukraine Ready to Sign Interim Gas Agreement With Russia And Asks Stockholm Arbitration to Catalyze Decision on Cost

Conditions of Russian gas supplies for the coming fall-winter season will be defined either as part of compromise at gas talks between Ukraine and Russia with the participation of the EU or by the Stockholm arbitration. Ukraine aims at reaching agreement as fast as possible.

This was stated by Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

"In order to have an interim solution for supply of gas, we asked the court to catalyze an interim decision, which would ensure, on the one hand, the setting of the price, and on the other hand, the supply of gas," the prime minister said at the government meeting on Thursday.

He added that the other option is setting gas price for the period until Mar. 31, 2015 within the framework of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia with the participation of the EU.

"We have common position with the representatives of the European Commission concerning the conclusion of an interim agreement for the supply of natural gas until Mar. 31. An interim one, because the final decision will be made by the Stockholm arbitration court. We are ready for a temporary decision and to signing an interim agreement on terms stated by Ukraine and the European Union," Yatsenyuk said.

Yatsenyuk first reported on the filing of the lawsuit to establish interim price on Oct. 3, adding that the decision is expected within a month.
