The investigation was launched into Hontareva’s expenditures on vacation she spend in the Maldives in 2016.
NABU detective Pautov reportedly made a decision to dismiss the criminal case on March 16, 2018 because the act of the NBU ex-chief constituted no criminal offense.
The detective also believes that the purchase of a tour cannot be regarded to as an acquisition of property as it is interpreted in part 2 of article 52 of the law on the prevention of corruption. Therefore, the act entails no criminal responsibility.
The case dismissal was appealed by lawyer Yurii Kharchenko acting on behalf of a third party. However, the judge agreed with the arguments of the NABU detective and the complaint was not granted.
As reported, the court ordered the NABU to investigate possible submission of false information by Ukraine's chief banker in July 2017. The then NBU head reported income of 56,950,000 hryvnia and $2.65 million in savings on her bank accounts in 2016.
