 SBU checks whether Mercedes owned by PM’s wife was properly customs-cleared, Hroisman connects it with response to recently launched anti-smuggling campaign. DOCUMENT

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) requested the Zhytomyr customs office to submit papers necessary to check customs clearance of Mercedes purchased by prime minister’s wife Olena Hroisman in 2017.

As reported by Censor.NET, the image of the SBU’s request was made public by Obozrevatel media outlet.

The letter signed by SBU First Deputy Chairman Pavlo Demchyna says that the agency requests the customs office to submit information concerning Mercedes GLE 350D owned by Olena Hroisman.

Media reports previously said that the PM’s wife paid 2 million hryvnia for a Mercedes in 2017. Hroisman reportedly entered the car on his income-tax return which had to be checked by the National Agency for Corruption Prevention by July 11, 2018.

Speaking on air of Freedom of Speech TV show, the head of Ukrainian government said he was linking the SBU’s interest in his wife’s car customs clearance with the anti-smuggling campaign recently announced by the Cabinet.
