 Border guards got beaten up by Mariupol-based café security, unknown young people after asking menu in Ukrainian

A Lieutenant Colonel and a press officer of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine were injured in the conflict that sparked in Mariupol RedCups café on June 17. The fight was allegedly initiated by the security guards who were later joined by unknown young people.

As reported by Censor.NET, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Oleh Slobodian, told local media outlet 0629.

"The State Border Guard Service is conducting an internal investigation into this incident. Written statements were submitted to the police. Therefore it is too early to draw final conclusions.

"However, the preliminary findings indicate that the border guards were beaten up by unknown individuals. The conflict was triggered by the security guards but several young people arrived and joined the beating.

"Two border guards including a female officer were injured in the attack. The male border guard has his jaw broken and numerous bruises. The female has a concussion and numerous bruises.

"The act of aggression took place after the border guards asked why the cafe had no menu in Ukrainian," Slobodian said.

The conflict which subsequently emerged into a fight took place at the RedCups RDCP Lounge cafe in Mariupol on June 17. A Lieutenant Colonel and a press officer of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine were hospitalized as a result.
