Russia Refuses to Complete Demarcation of Border With Ukraine, Yatsenyuk Says

Russia refuses to complete the demarcation of the border with Ukraine.

This was stated by Prime Minister Yatsenyuk after inspection of the equipped engineering section of the Ukrainian-Russian border in the Kharkiv region, Censor.NET reports citing UNIAN.

"Delimitation is formally completed, but demarcation is not. Russia refuses to complete the demarcation," Yatsenyuk said.

He noted that the presence of the border with Russia will finally testify to Ukraine's sovereignty.

"A state is obliged to have a border. This border is the key to both our security and, in particular, to clear definition of what is our territory and that you will not cross it," Yatsenyuk said.

The Prime Minister noted that Ukraine unilaterally marks the border line in certain places.

"Where the boundary is not demarcated, we put signs by ourselves. This procedure is not called the demarcation, but marking the boundary line," he said.

The field work on drawing the state border between Ukraine and Russia on the ground began in April 2012. Total length of onshore section of the Russian-Ukrainian border is near 1,975 kilometers.
