 Car that detonated in Kyiv belongs to Donbas war veteran, police investigate several leads

The car which exploded in one of Kyiv districts belongs to a reserve officer of Ukrainian Armed Forces who took part in combat operations in the country’s east.

This was said by Kyiv police Chief Andrii Kryshchenko, Censor.NET reports citing 112 Ukraine TV channel.

According to him, the car owner, born in 1977, served in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and took part in battles in the Donbas. The police have him in custody. The investigators interrogate him.

The person is charged with illegal handling of weapons and explosives under article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Kyiv’s top policeman also voiced several leads investigated by the law enforcers.

"We do not rule out that someone has rigged [the vehicle with explosives] since the car has not been used for a long time. The possibility of a terrorist attack is also being considered. We are cooperating with the Security Service on this lead," he said.

According to the law enforcer, another version is that it was the car owner who planted the bomb to prevent the theft of tools from it.

As reported, blast in Sviatoshynskyi district of Kyiv inflicted injuries on four children as they were playing inside an old car on June 14. All of them were hospitalized including two in critical condition.
