"Two our soldiers were meanly taken prisoner by the enemy subversive and reconnaissance group as they were heading for the advanced observation post on May 26. The fate of our soldiers has been unknown for a week. The enemy took such a pause for a reason. It was used for exerting enormous psychological and, possibly, physical pressure on our fighters. As an outcome, a number of stories with participation of these servicemen were filmed," Censor. NET reports citing the statement by the press service of the 14th Brigade on social media.
"According to information released by the outlet run by one of the self-proclaimed republics, they are still alive – and this is what actually matters – but the enemy holds them in captivity. The invaders shamelessly use them as tools of pro-Russian propaganda. Cheesy stories orchestrated by the enemy and the so-called briefing clearly indicate that heavy psychological and, possibly, physical pressure is being put on the Ukrainian servicemen. Under such circumstances, the captives tell the lies about the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a whole and the brigade in particular," the press service stressed.
"It's hard for us to hear it but we understand what caused such a behavior and such actions. After all, using violent threats to force people do and say what they do not want to, what they do not believe in, and what has never been the case is in the best tradition of the villainous Russian separatists who are still trying to persuade the global community that there are no Russian occupation troops on the territory of Ukraine temporarily uncontrolled by the government," the statement says.
However, the Brigade commanders assure that the detachment is making every effort to free the soldiers from captivity.
According to the terrorists of the so-called "Luhansk People’s Republic" also known as the "LPR", soldiers of the 14th separate mechanized brigade Yakiv Veremeichyk and Yurii Yevtushok were taken prisoner.
14th Brigade’s press service earlier said that whereabouts of its two servicemen were unknown after they had left their unit’s position with no authorization.
