After the Ecumenical Patriarchate grants the Tomos of Autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate, the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, and several bishops and local churches of the Moscow Patriarchate will unite in a single local church.
"There is every reason to believe that in the near future, I think it will be in July, we will get the Tomos and autocephaly," Filaret said.
It is worth noting that on May 31, 12 bishops of the Patriarchate of Constantinople shall consider granting autocephaly to the Ukrainian church.
On April 17, Poroshenko said Ukraine was closer than ever before to creating an autocephalous united local church.
Pursuant to the instruction of President Petro Poroshenko, on April 20, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Rostyslav Pavlenko visited Istanbul and handed over to His All-Holiness, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew the Appeal of the President of Ukraine on granting the Tomos of Autocephaly to the Orthodox Church in Ukraine.
He also handed over the Verkhovna Rada’s resolution on the support for the President’s Appeal to the Ecumenical Patriarch.
Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew also received the appeals of the hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox churches on granting the Tomos of Autocephaly to the Orthodox Church in Ukraine.
The 1030th anniversary of the Christianization of Kyivan Rus-Ukraine will be marked on July 28, 2018.
