The official met with the military leadership and heads of law enforcement agencies to discuss the effectiveness of efforts to counter Russian aggression during the period of transition from the anti-terrorist operation to the Joint forces operation, Censor.NET reports citing the NSDC press office.
According to Turchynov, the past week was featured by the greatest number of attacks in the last six months committed not only on Ukrainian soldiers, but also on civilians.
"Artillery, tanks, multiple launch rocket systems, banned by the Minsk agreements are used," he said adding that the strikes hit the targets located on the government-controlled territory 30 kilometers away from the demarcation line. These bombardments destroyed civil infrastructure and inflicted casualties not only among the military, but also among civilians.
Turchynov also said that Ukrainian intelligence observes Russian troops being amassed in the immediate vicinity of the Russian-Ukrainian border which indicates that "the Russian military and political leadership plots large-scale provocations and offensive that can begin at any time."
The NSDC secretary visited positions of the 24th separate mechanized brigade named after King Danylo Halytskyi in the vicinity of Horlivka where the Russian-terrorists committed greatest number of attacks and attempts to invite retaliation of the Ukrainian troops.
While paying visits to the hot zones in the vicinity of Zaitseve village and the village of Pivdenne, which was recaptured by the Ukrainian military the other day, Turchynov noted that despite constant provocations by the Russian-occupation troops, "our soldiers managed not only to hold the lines, but also significantly improved their defensive positions in order to minimize losses among the military personnel and civilians."
"Coordination among the military, National Guard, National Police, Security Service, and border guards improved significantly after the Joint forces operation was launched. That is, the efficiency and effectiveness of the coercive force used to defend our country’s east from the Russian aggression have improved," Turchynov said.
"The Ukrainian troops are ready to resolutely counter any provocations by the Russian-occupation forces," he summed up.
