Lawyers Urged Amnesty International and the UN Committee to Recognize Savchenko as Prisoner of Conscience

Defense lawyers of the imprisoned Ukrainian pilot Nadia Savchenko, number 1 on the party list of the Batkivshchyna party at the forthcoming parliament elections, prepared an appeal to Amnesty International urging to assign her the "prisoner of conscience" status.

Маrk Feigin, Savchenko's lawyer, writes it on Twitter, Censor.NET reports.

"Since the situation with the case of Savchenko has deteriorated, the defense decided to force the question of her obtaining the international status of a prisoner of conscience. We prepared an appeal to Amnesty International calling to assign Savchenko the status", he said. Feigin also said that Savchenko's defense appealed to the UN Committee on Human Rights asking for support on the issue of her status as a political prisoner. "They have their own list," Feigin noted. Earlier Censor.NET wrote that pilot Savchenko was officially recognized as political prisoner by Russian human rights activists.
