Governer of Donetsk Region Kikhtenko Tells about New Ceasefire Agreement

The newly appointed governor of the Donetsk region General Oleksandr Kikhtenko argues that the Ukrainian government has signed a new ceasefire agreement with the militants.

He said this in an interview to Zn.ua, Censor.NET reports.

"According to information available to me, a ceasefire agreement was indeed signed on Friday night. The military was represented by the deputy chief of the General Staff Dumanskyi. The "DPR" was represented by Zakharchenko. The ceasefire is observed today," he stated.

Kikhtenko also accepts exchange of Donetsk airport to other areas.

"There really are some disputed areas along the line, which was set as a result of the Minsk Agreement. There are areas that are under the DPR control. So if the question arises about exchange of these settlements for the airport, the decision will be taken at a high level. Indeed, on the one hand, the Donetsk airport became a symbol of the heroism of our soldiers. But on the other hand, it is shelled every day; there are dead and wounded Ukrainian soldiers. Moreover, the airport as a strategic infrastructural object is destroyed. It needs correct, competent, and timely decisions as well," he said.
