"The enemy stepped up attacks in the vicinity of Novoluhanske, Troitske, Svitlodarsk, Zaitseve, Avdiivka, Opytne, and Vodiane villages. Ukrainian troops maintained active defense and adequately responded to invaders’ fire," the statement reads.
Seven JFO soldiers were reportedly injured in combat operations on May 17.
Intelligence sources indicate that six invaders were eliminated and one received injury in retaliation fire.
The agency also noted that JFO Commander, Lieutenant-General Serhii Naiev, late yesterday held an extraordinary meeting with Alexander Hug, Principal Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine.
The parties frankly and constructively discussed ongoing escalation of the situation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, artillery strikes committed by Russian-terrorist forces, etc.
