"The investigators found that the mentioned person extorted $10,000 in bribe form a litigant for making a ruling in his favor. She (the judge – Ed.) was arrested while receiving the first part [of the bribe] amounting to $2,000," Specialized Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office said in a statement, Censor.NET reports.
The prosecutors are now preparing charge papers to serve them to the judge. The law enforcers are also going to request the High Council of Justice to remove the judge from the post.
At the same time, the prosecutors stressed that according to the part 1 of article 62 of Ukraine’s Constitution, a person is considered not guilty of committing a crime and cannot be punished until one’s guilt is proved through legal procedure and established in a guilty verdict handed down by a court.
The SBU press service later released pictures of the detention.
