Leader of banned Ukrainian Communist Party summoned for questioning

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) summoned for questioning Petro Symonenko, the leader of the Communist Party of Ukraine which was banned under decommunisation.

Spokesperson for the law enforcement agency Olena Hitlianska told Hromadske.TV, Censor.NET reports.

Symonenko reportedly gives his testimony in the criminal case initiated into offense defined as crime punished by part 1 of article 109 (Actions aimed at the forcible change or overthrow of the constitutional order or power grab) and part 1 of article 111 (high treason) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

On May 8, the SBU operatives found an item that looked like Stechkin handgun during authorized search at Symonenko’s place of residence.

Earlier on the same day, the SBU officers searched the premises associated with the leaders of the Communist Party in Kyiv and its larger area and found propaganda materials with banned communist symbols that the law enforcers believe the Russian handlers of the communist ideology supporters ordered to spread during V-Day celebration on May 9 to destabilize the situation in the country and provoke riots.
