Ukraine’s defense minister: No plans to take control of Donbas by killing thousands of civilians as Russia did in Chechnya

The Joint Forces’ actions in the Donbas will significantly differ from the military operation that Russia conducted against Chechnya in the 1990s.

As reported by Censor.NET, Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak said in an interview with Uriadovyi Kurier government newspaper.

"We do not plan to carry out large-scale offensive operation and seize the territory the way Russia did it in Chechnya – by killing thousands of civilians. Ukraine is a civilized country and it will address the return of all the territories occupied by the aggressor in a civilized manner," he said.

According to the minister, the adopted law on reintegration of the Donbas lays all the legal groundwork for the return of the occupied areas.

"This law allows us to effectively hold our positions giving the enemy zero chances to seize new territories. It also helps to pave way for the liberation of Ukrainian soil," Poltorak said.
