"Taking into account the public outcry and in order to provide the public with reliable information on NABU’s part in the probe initiated against deputy prosecutor general –the head of the SAP, the Bureau considers it appropriate to disclose declassified conversations wiretapped in the SAP head’s office. The wiretapping operation was sanctioned by the investigating judge as part of the investigation of criminal proceedings registered by the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO)," the statement reads.
"NABU believes that the actions of the SAP head established in the wiretapping operation may bear signs of criminal and disciplinary violations. We are talking about possible coercion to make false statements, disclosure of pre-trial investigation information to a third person. We remind you that bringing the SAP head to criminal liability falls within the competence of the PGO as a body conducting the pretrial investigation of the mentioned case," the agency said.
"As for the disciplinary component, we emphasize that possible violations committed by the SAP head in no way characterize the work of the whole agency he runs. Therefore, the cooperation between the [NABU] detectives with SAP prosecutors in investigation of the criminal cases is routinely going on," NABU said.
On March 30, Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko initiated dismissal of Kholodnytskyi over alleged disciplinary offenses.
Several news agencies earlier reported that Kholodnytskyi considered his resignation over alleged health issues. According to another opinion, possible resignation of SAP’s chief can be connected to the pressure exerted on him. Kholodnytskyi later said he had no intent to resign.
