President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel state that there are threats to derail the plan for a peaceful settlement in the Donbas.

This was discussed in their telephone conversation, Censor.NET reports with reference to the press service of the Ukrainian President.

In addition, Poroshenko stressed the need to regain control of the Ukrainian-Russian border in the occupied area, as well as providing the Ukrainian border guards with the ability to perform their functions alongside the OSCE monitoring and the appropriate technical support.

The parties also noted that the holding of local elections in some parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions should be in accordance with Ukrainian legislation, as well as in the context of sustainable bilateral ceasefire, equal opportunities for election campaign and the involvement of international observers.
