As reported by a correspondent for Censor.NET, 342 lawmakers supported Hontareva's dismissal while Smolii's nomination was upheld by 247 lawmakers.
Earlier on Thursday, while reporting in the Ukrainian parliament on her activities as NBU head, Hontareva said that she considered her mission in this post to be fully complete.
On May 10, 2017, Hontareva tendered her resignation as NBU head.
On Jan. 18, President Petro Poroshenko nominated Smolii for NBU governor.
On Feb. 5, the Verkhovna Rada committee on financial and banking activities recommended that the parliament approve draft resolutions on Smolii's appointment as NBU head and Hontareva's dismissal from the post.
Hontareva was appointed to the post by parliament on June 19, 2014, replacing Stepan Kubiv.
