Conflict Escalation in Ukraine Is One of Three Main Threats to Global Economy - IMF

Further escalation of the conflict in Ukraine is one of the three main geopolitical threats to the global economy development.

Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde noted this during a speech at the Georgetown University in Washington D.C. on Thursday, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"As well as economic and financial "clouds", there are geopolitical risks. They include possible further escalation of the situation in Ukraine, which could provoke disruptions in commodity prices, financial markets and trade," she stated.

Among other geopolitical risks for the economy growth, Lagarde named political developments in the Middle East and in some parts of Asia as well as an expansion of the Ebola outbreak in Africa, which could pose a significant risk to the region and indeed the world, if not urgently and appropriately addressed.

All of these risks, of course, also involve immense human suffering and we hope that they do not develop. But we would be remiss simply to ignore them.
