"The strike action was declared in connection with unprecedented blatant and unlawful encroachment of Ukraine’s Health Ministry leadership on the independence and self-administration of the Bohomolets National University which grossly violates part 3 of article 2 of the law of Ukraine on higher education, the Constitution of Ukraine and other legal acts providing for the autonomy of higher educational institutions in Ukraine," Censor.NET reports citing the statement posted on the university’s Facebook page.
"The academic and scientific activities in the university have been indefinitely suspended starting Monday, Feb. 26. All the university premises except for the hospital inpatient departments have become inaccessible," the medical university representatives said.
The strike is reportedly held by the activists from among the students, students’ trade union committee members, deans, pro-rectors, and members of the university trade union committee.
The strike committee asks the president to immediately intervene in the situation, request the Verkhovna Rada chairman and the prime minister to "immediately set up a commission to investigate abuse by the leadership of the Health Ministry and suspend Acting Health Minister Ulana Suprun and her deputies from office pending investigation.
The strikers also called Suprun to cancel the decree removing University Rector Kateryna Amosova from office and permissive assignment of Mykhailo Zakharash as the acting rector as well as hold Krok1. Stomatology integrated licensed exam without delay.
