As reported by Censor.NET, Jus Talionis Reconstruction Lab compiled video filmed in the period between 7:39 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Feb. 18, 2014. It was the first part of a major crackdown on the Euromaidan activists which lasted from 7:50 p.m. on Feb. 18 to about 04:30 a.m. on Feb. 19. According to the information, subsequently released by the press office of MP Hennadii Moskal, this crackdown was codenamed Boomerang.
15 protesters and four law-enforcers were either killed or received fatal injuries just before the crackdown. The Maidan Nezalezhnosti square was surrounded by a large number of riot police personnel and titushky. There were about 20,000-25,000 protesters on the Maidan before the assault while their number reduced to 15,000 when the offensive operation was launched at about 9 p.m. The perimeter of the Maidan was held by less than a thousand protesters confronting several thousand internal troops and Berkut soldiers in riot gear and several hundred members of Spetsnaz armed with firearms (including automatic ones).
