As reported by Censor.NET citing The Defense Ministry-run TV channel, the injured Russian mercenary said his name was Alexander Startsev, a private of the first company of the 9th regiment of the so-called “Armed Forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic.”
As reported, the enemy subversive group approached positions of the Ukrainian military on the outskirts of Shyrokyne on Jan. 19. Being exposed by the Ukrainian soldiers, the militants opened fire. The government forces engaged the saboteurs and forced them to retreat. As it turned out, the saboteurs had left a wounded member of their group on the battlefield. An hour after the clash, the Ukrainian soldiers found the mercenary, provided him with the first aid, and evacuated from the battlefield.
