 Rada adopts law designed to deal with Donbas occupation

Following a long discussion, the lawmakers greeted with applause the adoption of the bill designed to stop Russian occupation of the Donbas.

As reported by a correspondent for Censor.NET, the bill No. 7163 “On special government policies in securing Ukraine’s sovereignty over the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions” was adopted by the MPs following a long and heated discussion. 280 lawmakers supported the bill.

The bill was submitted by President Petro Poroshenko on Oct. 4, 2017.

The Verkhovna Rada’ National Security and Defense Committee approved the bill on Oct. 5 and recommended it for adoption on first reading.

On Oct. 6, the Verkhovna Rada approved the presidential bill at first reading.

Taking the presidential bill on de-occupation of the Donbas as a basis was supported by 114 members of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction, 71 members of the People’s Front faction, 17 Radical Party faction MPs, 12 representatives of Volia Narodu parliamentary group and 19 non-affiliated lawmakers.

Any member of Batkivshchyna, Opposition Bloc, and Samopomich factions cast ones vote for the bill.

This piece of legislature is designed to provide the new legal basis for addressing the issue of confronting the aggression in the Donbas and in the long term - to restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine within the internationally recognized border.
