"A gender-based crime against one’s spouse in the presence of a child, as well as offense against a disabled person, a person suffering from mental disorders, namely mental disability, or a person with a mental deficiency constitute aggravating circumstances," the document reads.
An offense against a spouse, former spouse or other family member is also considered an aggravating circumstance.
It is noteworthy that most of the norms of this Law will come into force a year after its publication in Holos Ukrainy, namely on Jan. 11, 2019.
As reported, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on combating domestic violence on Dec. 7, 2017. The bill was supported by 237 lawmakers.
