Lithuanian president emphasized the importance of today's discussion with Poroshenko on the continuation of anti-corruption reforms in Ukraine.
"Both the European Union and Lithuania support these reforms aimed at combating corruption. These reforms should be consistent and open, ensuring full independence of agencies from political influence," Grybauskaitė said.
She also said that those anti-corruption law enforcement agencies "should not use information in any way for their participation in politics". She stressed that those principles were the same both for Lithuania and Ukraine.
The president of Lithuania emphasized the importance of ensuring the independence of NABU in such a way that "politicians will not influence the work of NABU". "At the same time, NABU in no way has the right to participate in political activity in Ukraine," Grybauskaitė said.
She also stressed that her "country supports the creation of an Anti-Corruption Court in Ukraine".
"We understand that this practice is not common in other European countries. We understand that such a court should become a transition for the period until the Ukrainian judicial system is capable of fighting corruption efficiently," Dalia Grybauskaitė said. She also emphasized the importance of further reforming the prosecutor's office in its anticorruption activities.
On Nov. 29, the press office of the State Migration Service reported detention of the NABU member - the son of the former member of the Party of Regions Yurii Boiarskyi - while trying to bribe First Deputy Head of the State Migration Service of Ukraine Dina Pimakhova. NABU later said that the PGO and SBU unlawfully intervened in the undercover operation. The SBU conducted a search and seizure operation in the NABU on the same day.
