 Russia’s army lost 3,000 personnel in five years with highest death toll in 2014

More than 3,000 Russian servicemen deceased over the period between 2012 and 2016 while the death toll peaked in 2014.

These figures were published in the bidding documents for servicemen insurance in 2018-2019, Censor.NET reports citing the Russian Vedomosti newspaper.

In October 2017, Sogaz insurance company won a tender on insurance of servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces in 2018-2019 worth 11.2 billion rubles. The bidding documents show statistics of death insurance with 630 deceased Russian servicemen in 2012, 596 – in 2013, 790 – in 2014, and 626 in 2015.

Russia’s Defense Ministry ceased publishing statistics on deceased servicemen in 2010 regardless of the death cause (illness; murder; suicide; accidents, including during military drills, combat losses). The official report says 471 military died in 2008, while according to the prosecutor's office, 470 and 478 servicemen were killed in 2009 and in 2010 respectively.

The newspaper draws attention to mortality in the Russian army that reached its peak in 2014 with 790 deceased and coincides with the reports on the Russian army involvement in the Donbas conflict.
