Ukraine Urges FIFA and UEFA to Impose Sanctions Against Football Union of Russia

The Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) urged FIFA and UEFA to impose sanctions on the Russian Football Union (RFU) in response to the adoption of the Crimean clubs in the RFU.

This was stated by FFU President Anatolii Konkov, Censor.NET reports citing LigaBiznesInform.

Konkov noted that Russia has not officially informed either UEFA or FIFA, but on August 12 accepted three clubs from Crimea to take part in the Cup of Russia. This decision was made in violation of the statutory rules of FIFA, UEFA, FFU and the RFU.

"As president of the Ukrainian National Association I appeal to you to take the necessary measures to address the situation, including the use of legal sanctions to the party which violated the rules and ignores the basic principles of higher football authorities. Crimea is a part of Ukraine and thus, all football subjects of Crimea are under the jurisdiction of the Football Federation of Ukraine," the statement says.
