 Barroso Warns Putin Against any Unilateral Military Action in Ukraine on any Grounds Including Humanitarian

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin warned the Russian side against unilateral military actions.

"President Barroso expressed concern about the accumulation of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border as well as a flow of weapons, hardware and militants from the Russian territory, which contradicts the efforts to deescalate the crisis. President Barroso warned against any unilateral military action in Ukraine on any grounds, including humanitarian," the statement says.

EU Delegation to Ukraine also reports that Jose Manuel Barroso today held a telephone conversation with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. During the conversation with Ukrainian President Barroso stressed the readiness of the EU to increase humanitarian efforts under the auspices of the Government of Ukraine, as well as efforts by the international humanitarian organizations to help the people in need of such assistance.
