Barroso Warns Putin Against any Unilateral Military Action in Ukraine on any Grounds Including Humanitarian

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin warned the Russian side against unilateral military actions.

"President Barrosoexpressed concern about the accumulation of Russian troops near theUkrainian border as well as a flow of weapons, hardware andmilitants from the Russian territory, which contradicts the effortsto deescalate the crisis. President Barroso warned against anyunilateral military action in Ukraine on any grounds, includinghumanitarian," the statement says.

EU Delegation to Ukrainealso reports that Jose Manuel Barroso today held a telephoneconversation with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. During theconversation with Ukrainian President Barroso stressed thereadiness of the EU to increase humanitarian efforts under theauspices of the Government of Ukraine, as well as efforts by theinternational humanitarian organizations to help the people in needof such assistance.
