 Case of Ukrainian Officers Who Retreated to Russia Will be Heard in Court Today

A trial of five Ukrainian officers of the 72nd Brigade, who were detained by Russian police officers after they were forced to retreat to the territory of the Russian Federation, will take place today in the Rostov region.

This was reported by the Consulate General of Ukraine in Rostov-on-Don, Censor.NET reports with reference to UNIAN.

According to the Consulate, the Russian side does not reveal the exact time and place of the hearing but it is expected that it will happen tonight in the town of Donetsk (Rostov region) or Gukovo (Rostov region).

The consul stated that, most likely, the Ukrainian soldiers will be arrested for 2 months - they are charged with the use of prohibited methods of warfare. At the same time, he noted that the case refers to the commanders of the battalion of the 72nd Brigade. "This is a provocation, like the one that was implemented at the trial of our pilot Nadia Savchenko," he said, adding that the case is in the hands of Moscow investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

According to him, the Ukrainian officers are in the detention center of Donetsk (Rostov region).

On August 7 the National Security Council of Ukraine reported that Russian is holding 46 Ukrainian soldiers by force. The Council also confirmed the information about the arrest of 5 Ukrainian officers in Russia, who together with the soldiers of the 72nd Brigade were forced to move into the territory of the Russian Federation in the course of a battle with the terrorists.
