Two Defense Ministry Officials Responsible for the Procurement of Munitions Dismissed, Poroshenko Says


Two heads of departments of the Ministry of Defense were dismissed following an investigation by the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO).

This was announced by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko at a meeting with volunteers, Censor.NET reports citing LigaBusinessInform.

Poroshenko noted that on the basis of information including such from volunteers the Prosecutor General's Office conducted an investigation. Following the preliminary results, the President ordered the Defense Minister to dismiss the two heads of the departments. One of them was responsible for the provision and bidding processes, another for the purchase of munitions.

The PGO conducted an investigation regarding inefficient use of funds by the Army and the National Guard. "New ones have been appointed today and I hope, they are more effective leaders," Poroshenko said.

Earlier, the PGO initiated proceedings regarding the delay by the Ministry of Defense and General Staff officials in purchasing of personal protective equipment for the military. As a result of 2.5 months delay almost 200 soldiers of the Armed Forces were left without helmets and received head wounds.
