Two Defense Ministry Officials Responsible for the Procurement of Munitions Dismissed, Poroshenko Says


Two heads of departments of the Ministry of Defense were dismissed following an investigation by the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO).

This was announced by President of Ukraine PetroPoroshenko at a meeting with volunteers, Censor.NET reports citing LigaBusinessInform.

Poroshenko notedthat on the basis of information including such from volunteers theProsecutor General's Office conducted an investigation. Followingthe preliminary results, the President ordered the Defense Ministerto dismiss the two heads of the departments. One of them wasresponsible for the provision and bidding processes, another forthe purchase of munitions.

The PGO conductedan investigation regarding inefficient use of funds by the Army andthe National Guard. "New ones have been appointed today and I hope,they are more effective leaders," Poroshenkosaid.

Earlier, the PGOinitiated proceedings regarding the delay by the Ministry ofDefense and General Staff officials in purchasing of personalprotective equipment for the military. As a result of 2.5 monthsdelay almost 200 soldiers of the Armed Forces were left withouthelmets and received head wounds.
