 Ukraine’s Representative to the UN: the Boeing-777 Tragedy Would not Have Happened if Russia Had not Supported Terrorists

Ukraine’s representative to the UN Yurii Serheev said the Boeing-777 tragedy would not have happened if Russia had not supported terrorists.

He made this statement at the emergency UN Security council meeting, Ukrainska Pravda reports.

According to Serheev, it is possible to shot down the plan at such an altitude only by an air defense missile system known as Buk.

"This tragedy would not have happened if the Russian Federation did not support terrorists and did not supply air defense systems to them", Serheev said.

He told the UN Security Council members about the intercepted conversation of the terrorists and about witnesses of two Buks belonging to the terrorists.

Serheev also told that two militants captured by Ukrainian soldiers admitted that Buk missile systems were delivered to the militants from Russia.

"We told many times in this hall we were concerned about Russian citizens being involved in the conflict", he said.

The Ukrainian representative to the UN stated that Russia was recruiting its citizens for participating in the conflict in the east of Ukraine; there were such recruiting centers in Rostov and Moscow.

Serheev pointed out the article of the criminal codex of the Russian Federation. According to this article participation in the terrorist organization abroad is forbidden.

He asked why any Russian citizen had not been brought to trial for taking part in the conflict in the Donbas.

Serheev also stressed that Russia had never warned its citizens not to support militants in the Donbas.

The UN representative of Ukraine pointed out that provocations at the border with the Russian Federation are going on.

He said that Russia keeps building up troops along Ukrainian border. On the 24th of June there have been 33 battalion, 40 thousand Russian soldiers on the border with Ukraine, 18 thousand - in Transnistria and 21 thousand in Crimea.

Serheev urged Russia to stop supporting terrorists and pull its troops back from the Ukrainian border.

Serheev also told that two militants captured by Ukrainian soldiers admitted that Buk missile systems were delivered to the militants from Russia.
