A source in the Ukrainian Air Force headquarters told Censor.NET: " Today there were no flights of the Ukrainian Air Forces in the anti-terrorist operation area. The Malaysian Boeing was shot down near the corridor that the Ukrainian military transport aircraft used to supply our troops near the Russian border," the media's editor-in-chief and military expert Yurii Butusov writes on his Facebook page.
"On July 14 on this route the Russian air defense system Buk hit a Ukrainian military transport aircraft An-26 at an altitude of 6,200 meters. This is far above the reach of portable SAMs of the terrorists. AN-26 was shot down by professional Russian troops. On July 16 Ukrainian aviation suffered serious losses - a Russian fighter jet shot down a Su-25 and two aircraft got hit by anti-aircraft missiles, though they were able to return to their bases. Therefore, on July 17, all flights of our aircraft over the Donetsk and Luhansk regions were suspended in order to avoid losses in aircraft and to repair the damaged planes. Ukraine has no forces or means of long-range air defense systems in the ATO area. All the systems have long been destroyed or captured by the Russian subversive groups," the source said to Censor.NET.
